About Bro. Charles Lewallen

May I have the pleasure of introducing myself to all of you who shall visit my website?

Let me start out by saying, "I am just an old sinner saved by God's grace."

In my early years I lived in a quaint country home with my parents, Charley and Josie Lewallen, near Charlotte, Arkansas. Mom and Dad had four children...one daughter and three sons. A great deal of my time was spent reading everything I could get my hands on.

When I was 17 years old, we were attending a small Baptist church near home, and were blessed when Evangelist John Rawlings came to preach a revival at our church. He asked me to direct the singing, and his messages caused me to give up my ambition to be a professional boxer, and to answer God's call to preach. My ministry began with the first sermon preached in a morning service during that revival. The date is forever etched in my mind: August 16, 1938, which means I will celebrate my 71st preaching anniversary in August of 2009.

Bro. Paul Goodwin visited me, and encouraged me to enter the Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1941, I enrolled there, and roomed for a while with Bro. Goodwin. He was a strong force in my life, and his memory still encourages me greatly.

While attending the Seminary, I met and married my wife, Lucille Scoggins. We have been married now for 67 years. We have four children, 11 grand children, 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

It has been a blessing to work with several churches during my ministry. After retiring, and then taking another church for a couple of years, I still preach often, filling in for other pastors.

"Gods Glorious Gospel Ministry" is the result and response to prayers and suggestions from friends and family. So, let's hear it for God's Glorious Gospel!
